Thought this would fit into Heavenly Days. Had to restle my wife to the ground for her cookbook and I agree Nothing like Baklava. A recipe from my wife (handed down from mother to daughter for years).
2 lbs walnut meats, and 1/4 lb of almonds chopped together fine with texture.
1 cup sugar 2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg 2 lbs melted butter
2 lbs fila
Grind walnuts, almonds and mix with sugar and spices. Grease 11" x 16" pan with melted butter. Place 12 fila in large pan, brushing each with melted butter. Sprinkle with 2 cups of nut mixture. Cover with 5 fila, brushing each generously with melted butter. Continue this procedure until all the nut mixture is used. Finish with 12 fila on top, brushing each with melted butter. Score top into diamond shape, then place in oven to bake. Chill before cutting. Bake in slow oven (300) for 1 1/2 hours until lightly browned. Remove from oven and pour cool syrup over hot pastry.
syrup: 3 cups sugar, juice of 1/2 lemon, 1 1/2 cups water, 1 cup of honey.
combine sugar, water, and lemon juice. Boil 10 minutes . Slowly add honey, and simmer minutes. Careful not to burn.

Thanks Allen. I'll burn it. I burn everything. But I'm always game to try my hand at Mediterranean confectioneries, particularly those I have a fondness for.

confectioneries ?? does that mean cookies ?? I I sure am better at eating them, then baking them. My wife can blow them all out of the water with her Greek cooking and baking.

Yes, A confectionery is a sugar-laden food, like a cake or cookie.
